Earth Day
Hillwoods Academy Primary School celebrated Earth Day within the school premises to promote environmental awareness and school spirit among young learners. The event was a perfect blend of celebration and meaningful learning. The staff and the students came dressed in blue to celebrate the Blue Planet Day, also known as Earth Day.
The morning assembly was centered around the theme of our “Blue Planet” and was conducted in an engaging and informative manner. Key highlights included:
- The Blue Planet: Students learned why Earth is called the “Blue Planet” and how it relates to the colour blue seen in their uniforms and school almanacs. The concept was explained by HM Ma’am and Ms. Shikha Dimri.
- Geography & Exploration: Students explored the globe using magnifying glasses and identified the Indian Ocean and India. They also spotted Delhi using a magnifying glass. The concept was explained by Ms. Sabahat.
- Musical Performances: A dance and song performance on “Socha Hai?” from the movie Rock On
helped the students connect the lyrics of the song “Paani Neela Neela Kyu………………..Gol kyu hai zameen”
with geographical concepts. They also danced on the number, led by Ms. Bhavna.
- 3Rs Awareness: Students were also made aware of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—to promote environmental responsibility. The concept was explained by HM Ma’am and Ms. Shikha Dimri.
Earth Day Activities
To encourage experiential and hands-on learning, students participated in creative activities:
- Earth Handprints: Students created handprint art to express their connection with the Earth and environmental care.
- Blue Day Celebration: All students and staff came dressed in blue to represent our “Blue Planet,” and
Students were given blue balloons to enhance the spirit of the day.
